Kanpai BBQ & Hotpot at 1701 Rockville Pike, Suite A10, in Rockville, MD, serves three meals at one table: tabletop BBQ, hot pot and a Southeast Asian buffet, all for one all-you-can-eat price. The flavors run from the street stalls of Bangkok to the beaches of Bali: lemongrass, satay, laksa and tom yum. Kanpai holds 4.7 stars on Google (October 2026). This is our guide to the best dishes to order.

The tabletop BBQ is Kanpai's signature, and the marinated meats are the best place to start. Our picks for a first round on the grill are satay beef, lemongrass chicken, sweet garlic pork belly and cumin lamb. The rest of the grill list covers spicy beef, brisket, rib finger, satay chicken, garlic chicken, Thai curry chicken, lemon chicken, lemongrass pork chop and plain pork belly.

For seafood, our favorite on the grill is the Hokkaido scallop, followed by shrimp, salmon and squid tentacles. Eggplant, pumpkin, sweet potato, king mushroom, zucchini, onion and rainbow pepper grill alongside.

Four items are served at dinner only, and they are the best reason to book an evening table: marinated galbi, ribeye steak, thin-cut beef tongue and spicy Argentine squid.

The hot pot comes with five broths: laksa, tom yum, spicy green mala, original and the classic shabu broth. A big pot takes one broth or splits into two; a small pot holds one broth each. Laksa and tom yum are the most Southeast Asian of the five, and in our view the best pair for a split pot.

Into the hot pot go sliced beef, beef leaf, sliced pork, pork belly, chicken breast and lamb; snakehead fish and bass fillets, shrimp, squid and New Zealand mussels; and bites such as lobster balls, beef tendon balls, chicken dumplings, fish tofu and Yamasa fish cake. Bok choy, watercress, crown daisy, lotus root, taro, corn and enoki, king and seafood mushrooms cook in the broth too. Finish with noodles, rice cake or MAMA instant noodles.

Between rounds on the grill and the hot pot, the buffet serves Southeast Asian street food, fresh salads and desserts.

Everything is all you can eat. Dinner is $45 for adults, $22 for kids 7 to 10 and $16 for kids 4 to 6. Lunch is $28 for adults and $14 for kids. The lunch buffet alone is $22 for adults and $11 for kids. Ask your server for the day's lunch and dinner times.

On the drinks list, Moshi sparkling yuzu (original, apple or peach) is $3, and herbal tea and coconut milk are $2 each. The bar also pours house cocktails.
